Synopsis
Introducing Philosophy: A Text with Integrated Readings, Ninth Edition, is an engaging introduction to the basic philosophical problems and the ways they are and have been answered. With Robert C. Solomon's discussion as the framework, the text features substantial excerpts from thinkers spanning the last twenty-five hundred years. Its chapters are organized topically - current alternative perspectives are juxtaposed with historical views from central philosophers. The philosophers included range from Plato, Confucius, René Descartes, and Immanuel Kant, to Emma Goldman, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, and Malcolm X, on topics such as the nature of reality, the existence and nature of God, the possibility of human knowledge, the mystery of the self, the nature of truth, and the essence of freedom. Professor Solomon presents the varied ideas of these thinkers and encourages students to evaluate the theories themselves. As aids, he includes chapter summaries, key terms, suggestions for further readings, and review questions at the end of each section, chapter, and selection. The book also includes brief biographies of the philosophers and a glossary., Introducing Philosophy: A Text with Integrated Readings, Ninth Edition, is an exciting and accessible introduction to core philosophical problems and the many ways in which they are, and have been, answered. Insisting both that philosophy is very much alive today and that it is also deeply rooted in the past, acclaimed teacher and author Robert C. Solomon combines substantial selections from significant works in the history of philosophy with excerpts from current philosophy, clarifying the readings and providing context with his own detailed commentary and explanation. Spanning 2,500 years, the selections range from the oldest known fragments to cutting-edge essays in feminism, multiculturalism, and cognitive science. They include work by a multitude of prominent thinkers, from Plato, Confucius, Rene Descartes, and Immanuel Kant to Emma Goldman, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, and Malcolm X. Organized topically, the chapters present alternative perspectives--including analytic, continental, feminist, and non-Western viewpoints--alongside the historical works of major philosophers; this juxtaposition encourages students to carefully evaluate the theories themselves. Topics covered include the nature of reality, the existence and nature of God, the possibility of human knowledge, the mystery of the self, the problem of consciousness, the essence of freedom, ethics and morality, and the nature of truth. The ninth edition has been streamlined to make it more accessible to students. Featuring new selections by Phillip Bricker, Martin Heidegger, Friedrich Nietzsche, Judith Orr, Amartya Sen, Tara Smith, Galen Strawson, and Malcolm X, it also offers new translations of several of the Nietzsche excerpts. Introducing Philosophy, Ninth Edition, incorporates numerous pedagogical features including more than 300 review questions that appear throughout the text at the end of each chapter. Each chapter ends with a summary, a list of key terms, and a bibliography with suggestions for further reading. Key philosophical terms are carefully introduced in the text (and boldfaced at their first appearance) and also summarized in the glossary at the end of the book. Brief biographies of the philosophers discussed in the text are provided at the end of the book. A Companion Website at www.oup.com/us/solomon9e offers valuable resources for students and instructors. An Instructor's Manual--in both print and CD editions--is available to adopters.", Introducing Philosophy: A Text with Integrated Readings, Ninth Edition, is an exciting and accessible introduction to core philosophical problems and the many ways in which they are, and have been, answered. - 8***g (252)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufA smooth and professional transaction throughout. The item was exactly as described, clearly listed, and fairly priced. Communication from the seller was prompt, polite, and helpful, with dispatch confirmed quickly. The parcel was securely packaged and arrived in excellent condition, ahead of the expected delivery date. Care was taken at every stage of the process. I would be happy to buy from this seller again—many thanks for a reliable and well-handled sale.FINLAND AND EUROPE: INTERNATIONAL CRISES IN THE PERIOD OF By Juhani Paasivirta (Nr. 335694307643)
- a***2 (13)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufItem was shipped quickly and packaged well. Item was exactly as described, brand new and it was even sealed. The seller also messaged me as soon as the purchase went through so communication was great. This was the last book in the series that I needed and to be able to find it in such great condition and at a great cost was unexpected. Highly recommend this seller and will definitely buy from again in the future.MARTIN THE WARRIOR (REDWALL) By Brian Jacques - Hardcover **BRAND NEW** (Nr. 187149385105)
- t***s (44)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThe Item itself I rate five stars. The seller, however, I stop at four stars. The seller met two out of three categories I look for when judging my purchasing experience: how well it was packaged, how quickly it was shipped, and how properly it was described; this seller provided prompt shipping and an accurate description, but failed when it came to packaging. The item arrived in a plastic bag without any reinforcement or protection whatsoever and suffered dinged corners on multiple fronts.
