1541 Alps is good, avoid Mitsumi
The 1541 and 1541-II with the D500 drive, the ones with the swivel latches, are to be avoided. The heads die and the aren't any replacement heads so it is a door stop. Get the Alps drive units, it has the fire you press shut. This drives may have latch wear for issues but they can be fixed.

Smaller than a DeLorean
Looks great! I can't wait to throw some floppies in this thing and take a trip back to 1983!

Positively surprised and lucky with this floppy disk drive purchase
I was positively surprised with the quality and cosmetic condition of this product - it was delivered to me in mint condition! Although untested, it turns out it worked just fine. It lacked the serial wire connecting the device to the Commodore 64, the test demo floppy disk, transit card to secure the drive head upon transit and users manual. I bought these accessories separately. Now I have the complete piece of computing history supplementing my vintage Commodore 64. Many thanks!

The device itself is awesome for its nostalgic aura. Not practical unless you want to play with old Commodore 64 disks.
The device was in excellent condition and functions. I was able to load a game and play it.

Hard to find good working Commodore disk drive works perfectly
An untested 25 year old disk drive has a chance of not working. I had this one sent directly to my repairman in Washington State to check it out, and it needed nothing. I now have it and it works perfectly.

Very nice for its time
Considering how old these are I would say they are off high quality regardless of the fact they do have some commonly-occurring failures.

Although the floppy drive disk head was ...
Although the floppy drive disk head was bad (as I suspected), the purchase was what I wanted. Many of the chips on the circuit board for the floppy drive are needed to repair VIC-20 computers, so scrapping the drive was not an issue at all (disk drive heads can not be repaired). I needed the chips inside. I haven't fully tested the numeric keypad and the Koala Pad as of yet. The tape drive works fine. I'm happy!

1541 Drive Works!
Drive worked great and was is great condition considering the age.

Working 1541 drive
In good condition and works perfectly. I've ran a few dozen disks through it with no issues. Glad it came with the cables and user manual as well. Box was in okay condition, slightly water-damaged, but that was visible in the listing and I found it acceptable.
