It works very fast with mechanical HDD 5400 RPM & 7200 RPM (I guess it's USB 3.0, but I can't check it). The cable plug to the enclosure is a bit unorthodox, but it's included in the package, and it's attached to the enclosure at all times.

For a 7mm drive, I don't know what to use other than cheap foam tape. It makes the drive feel properly sealed.

I purchased two and one sealed better than the other after the hard drive was installed but it wasn't a big enough problem to be concerned about. Even considering that it's a basic plastic enclosure it's a great deal indeed.
