On July 30, 1949, the orchestras of Charlie Barnet and Woody Herman squared off at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa, California, for a battle of the bands presided over by Stan Kenton, and this fun import captures the event! Among the combatants were Maynard Ferguson, Bill Harris, Oscar Pettiford, Shorty Rogers and Shelly Manne, and the tunes included Four Brothers; Claude Reigns; Bop City, and (with Kenton on piano and both bands blazing) More Moon. Plus two tracks with June Christy on vocals!
