Product Information

In 1979, producer Glen A. Larson (Battlestar Galactica, The A-Team) revived the character of Buck Rogers (originally created in 1928) for a television pilot for NBC. The result got a theatrical release, only to appear a year later on television as a prelude to a series starring Gil Gerard as the astronaut who goes on a space mission, only to awaken 500 years later on a severely different Earth and be chosen to aid a special defense organization due to his superior piloting skills. In the second season, Buck becomes a crew member on the Seacher, a spacecraft on the mission of finding lost tribes of Earth on other planets. Buck's robot assistant is voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc. This 5-DVD set includes all 32 episodes and the original pilot movie.

BUCK ROGERS 1979
Glen Larson & Leslie Stevens' 1979 reincarnation of "BUCK ROGERS" was never the most intense or intelligent show on TV, but one thing it was, was FUN! This box set gives me the opportunity to watch the entire run (the good and the bad episodes) in the best possible quality. One point of confusion was cleared up when I watched the first disc. Despite what it says in the booklet and on the disc itself, this collection does NOT contain the 2-hour TV re-edit of the pilot titled "AWAKENING". But it DOES have the original THEATRICAL film, which was shorter, BETTER, contained funnier (sometimes off-color) humor (much of it from Mel Blanc), and a genuine "James Bond" style opening credit sequence. I have to admit-- THIS is what I bought the ENTIRE set for!! I hadn't seen it since it was in a ... I look forward to watching the rest... many of which I somehow never got around to in all these years. One of the highlights for me will always be Pamela Hensley as Princess Ardala. When I re-watched the pilot some years ago, it struck me she gave the single BEST acting performance in the entire film. It's no wonder she became so popular on this show. She's in 6 episodes total (including a pair of 2-parters).

This series I remembered when I was a kid. Back when "Star Wars" came out in the late 1970s, there was other sci-fi shows that aired then: Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Buck Rogers was one of my favorite sci-fi shows back then. Coming home to watch Buck,Wilma and little Twiki and the adventures of the series was like going back to my childhood. The DVD collection of this series looks great, but it would have been nice if they would have put a documentary about the series and other extras.This series I remembered when I was a kid. The title fits.
The only real reason to watch this former tv series is to see all the girls that were in it. But other than that, it's still entertaining.

Very sharp video for a analog production
The video have very good reproduction for an older video prior to the HD signal we now have it must have gone through video enhancement to get this good of a picture. can't tell much difference from the analog it was made in from the HD its made for

Memories
I remember watching as a young boy, as I'm watching I takes me way back in so many different child hood memories. So far all of the disc are in perfect working order. The cd case it came in had a few CDs that couldn't hold in place because the plastic part was broke and the cd couldn't pop into place, will hold in place as long as it's closed. But it's a used product and that's to be expected.. so no worries. I'm enjoying the CDs and that's why I bought them.
