Nearly two decades after the cancellation of the original STAR TREK television series, creator Gene Roddenberry launched the first of what was to be four phenomenally successful spinoffs with STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. Set in the 24th century (nearly 100 years after the stewardship of Captain Kirk), the series introduced an all-new cast of intergalactic travellers exploring the farthest reaches out of outer space on a mission to chart new planets and alien civilizations. Ship commander Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) anchored the crew of the Starship Enterprise-D with a sensitive reserve that marked a distinct contrast to his trigger-happy predecessor, whose role was assumed by the Kirk-like second-in-command, William Riker (Jonathan Frakes). Rounding out the cast were the Spock-like android Data (Brent Spiner); blind officer Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton); Klingon officer Worf (Michael Dorn); ship doctor Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden); her teenage son, Wesley (Wil Wheaton); and psychic psychiatrist Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis).     Fantastic picture and sound. A great way to revisit TNG.All Good Things don't have to come to an end!

    After seeing Picard Season 3, I wanted to revisit TNG again - I didn't know how much I had missed the show until this season of Picard made me realise just how good it was seeing the crew back together again I had it on DVD but wanted to see it in all its glory on remastered Blu Ray so picked up a good used copy here. It gets off to a slow start in some respects, but by season two the characters are more settled and the stories improving all the time. It's like being back with old friends again and I didn't realise just how much I missed them all. The image quality is fantastic - taken from the original 35mm film prints where possible and some have been improved upon - many blurry planets are now sharper and more detailed with the help of CGI.     Bluray Update

    This box set is a bluray Update of the original series. It's an excellent box set. Only one drawback is its TV format 4:3 pal and not 16:9 wide-screen. As my TV can change the viewing format it wasn't a problem.

    The best TNG has ever looked

    Ignore the review about not being widescreen. Clearly from someone who knows nothing about how shows were filmed in the "dark ages" before widescreen HD was standard. The attention to detail on the HD remastering is astounding, and it's great to have almost everything in one reasonably priced set. (Although the TNG movies would have been nice!)
