This thing is legit. It’s not light but if you need to knockout a bear, this is your tool. It has false branches all over it that provide good grip. No one will take this from you plus it’s 59 inches. Start spinning in a circle with this bad boy and you’re breaking everything you touch with it. I don’t know if that’s a fighting technique for the Maasai but it should be.

"Nothing to shake a stick at" In other words "AWESOME!"
This is just about what I have been looking for in a walking stick or staff. It is sturdy, long, and a good weight. Being next to indestructible is also a great plus, and makes for a great defensive weapon. The knobs make it look like wood, but give it a better handhold to grab onto especially if you are reaching down to help someone up with it.

Very Nice
The 59" staff was perfect for me due to a back injury, I needed a longer cane and stand 6' 4". It had a bit more flex than I expected, so I set about 'Stress Testing' it to see if it would break. NOT gonna happen. Buy with confidence, this is one tough staff. I especially like the design and the fact that it has several elements built into it that would make it VERY effective as a self defense device. Very much in line with Cold Steels designs. The only minor thing I had to do was to add a rubber cane tip because I use it everywhere indoors and out, and I put considerable amount of weight on it. Strong and great in any weather.
Great for hiking because I live close to the Ramapo Reservation. The only problem is there are coyotes that have attacked hikers and their dogs. To have a large walking stick is just smart for many reasons. This product is the best walking stick I have seen on the web. Good in the cold and hot weather because of what it is made of. Stronger than wood and aluminum and better than medal to the touch when it is freezing outside. Great for hiking because I live close to the Ramapo Reservation. Exactly what one has come to expect from cold steel products...absolutely the best. It’s light weight and strength are awesome. It has great grip and the burley ball at the top is really cool. I use it on my daily walks with my dogs. If you think that you want one, it’s more than worth the money

Cold Steel Blackthorn Staff
I purchased to use as a hiking stick. Due to the mixed reviews I've read I gave it a try. I've heard stories on the news of people being attacked by dogs and coyotes while hiking or walking so I figured this could serve double duty. It's sturdy enough for the task if you can look past the polished plastic end piece (or the implied impact portion) that was partially falling off. I suppose I can alleviate that from happening with some epoxy of some sort. The MSRP of this stick is definitely overpriced.I purchased to use as a hiking stick.
