Could have better on\of switch placement, otherwise good product
It works fine. It has an aluminum case that disperses heat. It fell off my desk to a hard floor once and I thought i broke something since it was no longer working, but actually all that had happened was the drive shifted such that the plug inside the box with the tabs had slipped out a little. If I had designed this case, I would have put the on/off switch on the side with the power light rather than the other end between the two cables. The switch is not conveniently located.It works fine. It has an aluminum case that disperses heat. Perfect enclosure for your external drive
I was surprisingly pleased with the Vantec NexStar® TX USB 3.0 Hard Drive External Enclosure. The good: It came with instructions complete with photos showing how to install your drive inside and hook up the cables. It even came with a small screwdriver to put the case together. The USB cable 3.0 is included "backward compatible to 2.0, " and the power connector. It is very easy to put together and comes with a small stand to put the casing on. The light on one end is green when the power is one and turns blinking red when the drive is active. I installed a Hitachi 2TB drive in this one and it ran like a charm. Now the bad: There are no vents to reduce heat and the stand has no connections for the casing to snap onto, it just sits there so it could slip out. The unit did get pretty warm ... I was surprisingly pleased with the Vantec NexStar® TX USB 3.0 Hard Drive External Enclosure. The unit did get pretty warm during my six hour backup but not so hot that it burned my hand. The hard drive ran at around 47c at the end. You can run the drive outside the casing if you want which I did for a second backup and the drive ran at 45c. So not much of a difference. If you are only backing up a couple of hours or less heat should not be a problem. Overall I like it. It's small enough to sit on your desk and attractive. It came with everything needed even tools. I believe it will work with any sata drive up to 6TB. I do recommend it, it does the job nicely.

Works Great. Good Value
Works perfectly for a backup drive. It has been working flawlessly for a week. Temperature is fine. I already had three of these with different manufacturers labels on them and they all work good. Like anything you'll get a bad one now and then but so far it's been 100% good. The biggest plus is it has a light on the front! That was the deal breaker for me with other brands. They would put the light in the back of the unit which made it useless to see if there was drive activity. That was a dumb thing to. It saved production cost by 3 cents for the low ball builders and cost them every purchase from me.Works perfectly for a backup drive. It has been working flawlessly for a week. Temperature is fine.
