Wyler gets fine performances from Heston, Boyd, Jack Hawkins (as a Roman admiral who befriends Judah), and Hugh Griffith (as an Arab sheik who dreams of racing his beautiful white horses against Messala). Ben-Hur Still Reigns Supreme
Ben-Hur has been one of my favorite action (and "historical") films since it first came out in 1959--now almost 70 years later! I had the privilege at the time of seeiing it in CinemaScope on a screen designed for the express purpose of showing off that (at the time) newly-developed film projection format along with full stereophonic sound. To have a copy of that ground-breaking film now on Blu-Ray is fantastic--and it carries all the scope and color and drama that I remember seeing in the theater. Plus this set included the DVD version,, so I can compare the difference in clarity and definition that exists in the higher-definition version of Blu-Ray.
