The title says it all
I found this book to be an excellent guide into building steam engines and boilers. It starts out with very basic engines and assumes you have very basic tools to work with, no lathe or mill. The drawings are very concise with dimensions given both in inches and metrics. It covers a variety of engines both single and two cylinder of simple design. It also covers the boilers required and burners for them. I believe it will convince you that if you have enough skill to properly use a hand drill, file and can soft solder parts together you can build it.
