Synopsis
The Man Who Walked Between the Towers is the winner of the 2004 Caldecott Medal, the 2004 winner of the Boston Globe - Horn Book Award for Picture Books, and the winner of the 2006 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video., In 1974, French aerialist Philippe Petit threw a tightrope between the two towers of the World Trade Center and spent an hour walking, dancing, and performing high-wire tricks a quarter mile in the sky. This picture book captures the poetry and magic of the event with a poetry of its own: lyrical words and lovely paintings that present the detail, daring, and--in two dramatic foldout spreads-- the vertiginous drama of Petit's feat. • A remarkable book for children and adults

I was introduced to this event by watching "The Walk". I then watched the documentary "Man on Wire". Soon after, I ordered Philippe Petit's book "To Reach the Clouds", retitled "The Walk". My fourth step was to purchase this picture book, which is impressive in its way, too. Four times, I've confronted "Seeing is believing", and this still seems more of a fairy tale~brought to thrilling life in our world. They say that people disliked the Towers till Petit's awe-inspiring walk made them beloved structures. To me, revisiting Petit's accomplishment is an uplifting experience. It was one of the most amazing undertakings I have encountered in films and books~and in life, of course. P.S. I love the fold-out pages!

  • A tribute to the twin towers

I already had a copy of this book from many years ago. Each year, I read it to my students on 9-11. It's an incredible true acount of Philip Petet's daring feat. It is a reminder of something wonderful that involves the towers.
