    Sounds Reasonable

    A fun product that adds an extra dimension to your model railway. The sound is realistic and its fun to try and match your excelleration of your model loco to that of the sound. The product's best feature is probably the stationary sound of slow release of excess steam and the shovelling of coal by the fireman. The downside is that the decelleration and stopping of your loco does no seem to effectivly trigger the appropriate response from the sound chip so often your train will have stopped in the station, but the engine sound carries on at top speed for several seconds. Also a chip in a stationary train is usually triggerred by any other passing train. All in all a fun addition to your railway but a little bit pricey given its limitations.

    A sound investment.

    I have some TTS engines but many 0-4-0 tanks that remain silent. Adding this device to a wagon has meant that now I can have sound on any engine. The sound tube is amazing and increases the volume significantly, although it is not as loud as the TTS chips. I have removed the link to increase the volume and will probably end up adding the addition batteries - the instructions for doing this are very clear and easy to follow.

    I have had one of these for a year or tw...

    I have had one of these for a year or two and love its fully automated operation. My only criticism is the lack of insulation round the circuit board - I killed mine accidentally when it touched metal. Having just bought a replacement I shall wrap it in tape, which will keep the speaker tube attached too. Shame I had to learn the hard way!

    ideal alternative to sound fitted locos

    Purchased to compliment my steam depot layout. Ideal to work in background to sound fitted locos. easy to fit into either loco tender or associated wagon. Intend to add more as my collection grows.

    SFX10 verses Decoder Sound

    The SFX10 has an authentic sound library. the volume is just adequate but has the option of boosting volume by using AAA batteries, not tried yet. The SFX10 suffers from the sound momentarily losing synchronisation with the loco movement but not enough to detract from the added realism that the sound provides. Overall these sound units offer a rewarding sound capability for locos at a reasonable price
