Synopsis
"[W]ritten in the best tradition of the science writer and the mystery writer. . . . [A] breathtaking piece of work."--Jake Page, Washington Times, Praised as a "breathtaking piece of work" that is "written in the best tradition of the science writer and the mystery writer" (Washington Times), People of Chaco is the essential book on the spectacular array of ruins at Chaco Canyon. Like Stonehenge, they are both a monument to our prehistory and a cryptic puzzle. We know that in Chaco Canyon, one thousand years ago, there arose among the Pueblo people a great and culturally sophisticated civilization. Kendrick Frazier addresses questions raised by the famous ruins: What function did Chaco Canyon fulfill? How great was its extent and influence? Why did its culture collapse? Frazier scours the canyon for clues and, in this expanded edition, adds the freshest discoveries on the cosmographic orientation of Chaco's buildings, reports conclusions of the new Chaco Synthesis Project, updates the cannibalism controversy, and summarizes other new archaeological and scientific understanding of this major landmark of the Southwest. 155 illustrations., In northwestern New Mexico's Chaco Canyon lies a spectacular array of ruins. Like Stonehenge, they are both a monument to our pre-history and a cryptic puzzle. We know that in Chaco Canyon, one thousand years ago, there arose among the Pueblo people a great and culturally sophisticated civilization. But many questions remain: Just what function did Chaco Canyon fulfill? How great was its extent and influence? Why did its culture collapse? First published in 1986 and now updated with the latest archaeological and anthropological evidence, People of Chaco is an essential book for the general reader on the Chaco culture and ruins. With grace and erudition, Kendrick Frazier scours the canyon for clues about its unique cultural system, confirms its importance to archaeology, and saves this vital American narrative from the oblivion of history., The Missing Link blazes a unique trail through the conundrums and controversies generated by evolutionary theory and religious thought. To date, these debates have centered on the origin of species. This book, however, turns the spotlight on the origins of consciousness, thought, and the self while also considering the relationship between God and science. Remarkably, Darwin himself highlighted the relevance of the origin of consciousness to the question of a creator. Therefore, The Missing Link works within a framework that was laid out at the dawn of the creation-evolution debate. Since that time, however, this framework has rarely been considered or explored. The unifying theme of this volume is the conclusion that the existence of God is grounded in rational thought. Contributors to The Missing Link include three Nobel Prize winners, renowned scientists from Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard, and noted contemporary philosophers of consciousness, language, and the self., In northwestern New Mexico's Chaco Canyon lies a spectacular array of ruins. I was impressed with the quality of the item, the interaction between the Seller and I, and also the attention to detail in the description and packaging. The Seller even combined shipping for me and did this readily. I would definitely deal with this reputable Seller.

I have shipped MANY books sold by the Sacramento Book Den's store on eBay. We carefully pack books to ensure they arrive in the same condition as when purchased. The plastic wrap used by this seller provided minimal protection to the book's edges, spine and cover. Also, the wrap was difficult to remove without damaging the book. But to be clear we are happy with our purchase and would use this seller again. Cheers.

Will never use this seller again, I received 4 different scratched movies that I can’t watch, contacted seller to make this right and never received a response. Very disappointed.
