    One of my lifetime favorite books.

    This is like my fourth copy of this book - I first read it some 40 years ago, and since then I've loaned out or given copies to engineers, community preservation groups, etc. It is a fantastic, fascinating look at how buildings can adapt, change, evolve, and morph depending on the times, the uses, the community, etc. The information is presented in a lively and engaging style, it reads more like prose than a reference book. I'd highly recommend this book to folks in the trades, architects and engineers, and anyone with an appreciation of well built and designed buildings.
