Lavish production, great cast.
Video production covers five novels at a leisurely pace. Settings are expansive in the sense familiar to Downton Abbey fans. It was fun to watch 40 years ago, and even more fun to catch episodes I missed. A revealing interview with Susan Hampshire is a bonus feature. Editing in 1970s favored longer takes than currently fashionable, but I don't believe a modern viewer would find it slow. Historical Costume Serial Drama in its prime.
If you are a fan of Brit costume dramas, you will love this series that is based on 5 entwined stories by Trollope. This is an older series, so it Is mostly indoor bound, but as it progresses, there are more out of door scenes. It is color, so the beautiful costumes and decor can really be appreciated. I think it has held up marvelously over the years. It certainly is NOT for those who want a lot of action, but for those who love plays, who like the slow unfolding and development of characters, and like to immerse themselves in an historical period, this is jolly well done. One of the pleasures of this series is series is seeing a bouquet of young actors who have since blossomed into some of the greats of British TV and several into international film careers.... you get to see them before they were "names."Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

Splendid Period Fun

Exquisite Period Piece
