The images are simply extraordinary and the scholarship inspiring. Anyone who cares about Western art or about Africa and her diaspora ought to know these magnificent volumes., In addition to being an indispensable guide to the evolving meanings of racial difference, these dazzling volumes filled with extraordinary images and rich arguments contribute to an alternative history of the Western world. An invaluable gift for both specialists and general readers., One of the most thorough collections depicting the African-American in works of art...The books build on the research and photo project started by art patron Dominique de Menil in the 1960s, which grew out of a frustration with segregation. The collection was then transferred and continued to grow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University. De Menil's original volumes have been updated by David Bindman and Henry Louis Gates Jr. and now include more detailed descriptions and provide a larger context of the artwork that spans more than 5,000 years, including the Roman Empire to present-day pieces, filling in tremendous gaps in de Menil's collection, according to some art historians. The images, printed in full-color on high-quality pages, are available for the masses to see and understand how African-Americans not only fit into the various societies of the Western world, but how those relationships evolved throughout the ages., Harvard is known to be reluctant to publish art books but if this is anything to go by, it should do so more often.

Synopsis
In the 1960s, art patron Dominique de Menil founded an image archive showing the ways that people of African descent have been represented in Western art. Highlights from her collection appeared in three large-format volumes that quickly became collector's items. A half-century later, Harvard University Press and the Du Bois Institute are proud to publish a complete set of ten sumptuous books, including new editions of the original volumes and two additional ones. The much-awaited Artists of the Renaissance and Baroque has been written by an international team of distinguished scholars, and covers the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The rise of slavery and the presence of black people in Europe irrevocably affected the works of the best artists of the time. Essays on the black Magus and the image of the black in Italy, Spain, and Britain, with detailed studies of Rembrandt and Heliodorus's Aethiopica , all presented with superb color plates, make this new volume a worthy addition to this classic series.

- _***r (6)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufI had bought this this as a part of the buy two get one free deal which was very good deal. Two of the items came as shown in the photos, but the third item was incorrect. I had contacted the seller and my issue was swiftly resolved. The albums that came were still in the factory seal as advertised and had all the inclusions. There was a slight tear on one of the albums, but the seller was able to assist me with my issue. I would definitely buy from them again!TOMORROW X TOGETHER -THE NAME CHAPTER FREEFALL- Melancholy -TARGET EXCL - SEALED (Nr. 316120600399)

They must have been taking about the the cases, because the movies are in perfect condition, not even a finger smudge! Had a tiny mix-up with one disc from a multi-disc movie, but the seller responded within minutes and instantly made it right, which meant zero hassle for me. Definitely saved this seller in my favorites, great selection, fantastic prices and very fast, well packaged shipping. 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍ParaNorman (Blu-ray/DVD, 2012, 2-Disc Set, Includes Digital Copy UltraViolet) (Nr. 315649808168)
- 1***m (20)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letztes JahrBestätigter KaufExcellent transaction and was shipped promptly to my residence. Unfortunately, this was one of those rare occasions when the carrier misdelivered the package and it was lost. When I told this merchant what happened they promptly refunded me without my asking and without a fuss. I appreciate this and if they ever have another product I want to buy, I will not hesitate to do so. This is an excellent merchant!
