This is the story of the year my mother was bald, and it begins in June.... At first Mom didn't tell me that she might have a tumor, but I could tell that my parents were worried about something. They were spending a lot of time on the phone talking in serious voices, and forgot to remind me to practice the piano. I told myself that nothing was wrong, but deep inside I started to have a bad feeling that this wasn't going to be a regular summer. So begins Clare's journal about the year her mother undergoes treatment for cancer. A scrapbook filled with drawings, photos, medical clippings, and resources, this book offers a wealth of information about the illness, its diagnosis, and treatment. And more, through heart-warming tales of her family's journey, Clare describes many new-found strengths and inadvertent joys, and gives reassuring voice to the feelings and questions of all young people who may be walking in her shoes.
