GALAXY QUEST is a satirical comedy that pokes fun at the influence science fiction shows such as STAR TREK have had on their audience. The cast members of the cult sci-fi television series GALAXY QUEST now earn their livings appearing at conventions and grand openings, led by their bomastic captain Jason Nesmith, played by Tim Allen. When an alien race--the Thermians--arrives on earth, it appears that they have mistakenly appropriated the show's culture as their own, thinking the series was actual fact. Desperate for help in battling the evil General Sarris, they bring the actors with them into space to save their planet. A surprisingly smart and funny send-up of the science-fiction culture and the influence television has on the world at large, GALAXY QUEST is a comedy that even non-genre fans can enjoy, with terrific turns by Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tony Shalhoub.

    One I watch again and again

    Based on a real TV show in America, which was cancelled, this comedy science fiction film has a great good versus evil plot and some experienced actors, Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell, amongst many others. Initially shallow, once the crew realise that their space ship, the Protector, has actually been built by and alien race, the Thermians, believing their TV programmes to be real 'historic documents. The antagonist is General Sarris, who threatens to wipe out the Thermians unless he is given the Omega 13, which he believes to be the ultimate weapon. As the film unfolds, and the confrontation with General Sarris, intensifies, and after several encounters, the crew grow into their 'real' roles and defeat him. All this is set against the backdrop of ...

    An underrated masterpiece!

    This film is a wonderful comedy send-up of popular science fiction films such as Star Trek, for example - in which the actors who played in a now-cancelled TV franchise get visited by real/life aliens, who believed their on-screen adventures were historical reality and need them to help them defeat a reptilian warlord! Sigourney Weaver has great fun playing the blonde eye-candy in this film, while the late Alan Rickman is brilliant as the jaded, former-Shakespearean actor who’s wondering how his career came to this!?

    A quest for a great film complete

    Classic Sci/FI comedy movie. Great cast who really makes the film work. Sigourney Weaver from Alien movies always a favourite for me.
