Boston Mob
This was good but by no means great. Depp was convincing as pyscho Whitey Bulger, a mob boss & informer for the FBI. I found the film a little too talky, & I didn't like the actor who played a corrupt FBI man. He had too much screen time & he wasn't convincing. All in all, the film us worth seeing because of Depp, but I'd give it a lukewarm recommendation.

great true story ... great acting
Depp is totally sinister and creepy in this role. Seriously good. A true life story that is as wild as any top writer could have invented.

Great. "Killer of a Movie".
I never expected such a violent crime oriented movie. People who view Johnny Depp as a silly Pirate Character, have a "big Surprise Coming". He Blew My Mind ! Good Entertainment. "Not for Sissy's". dkee3363-Tampa

I definitely agree with the others on the acting of Mr. Johnny Depp in this one. Just outstanding. And let me NOT forget another movie he did that was humorous and good with the acting of others in Dark Shadows.

Johnny Depp like you've never seen him
The mobsters of Boston are showcased around "Whitey Bulger" - a true life depiction of the leader of the criminal Winter Hill Gang. Depp is almost unrecognizable with his slicked-back grey hair and cold, scary eyes and facial expressions. He does an awesome job, and the movie is worth watching for his portrayal alone. But the other actors and events are also riveting and entertaining, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Depp's brother, Joel Edgerton as the FBI agent, Kevin Bacon, and more. I have watched the movie several times, since I liked it so much I bought my own copy. I didn't think it would hold my attention as I'm not a big fan of criminal gangs running around killing people and extorting money from innocent citizens. But this movie did a great job peeling back the layers of the Boston mobs and what that life looked like. Great acting (especially Depp) and outstanding visual representation of the seedy underbelly of the city of Boston. Highly recommended!!

Compelling a must see
OUTSTANDING As you watch you become more & more involved not only with the story line but the characters as well. Just like a good book-you cannot put it down. I have watched this movie several times already & have had it only a short time. Johnny Depp is superb with a strong supporting cast. Truly, you will not be disappointed.
