Great souvenir for those who were there
I'm a big fan of Billy Joel. That being said, I believe there have been better live albums of his concert work than this one. ("Songs In The Attic" and the Carnegie Hall 1977 bonus disc which came with the Legacy edition of "The Stranger" come to mind.) I purchased this primarily for the historic nature of the concert, the guest appearances and to keep my collection complete. I'd venture to guess that for the folks who were there for the two final shows at Shea, these discs are essential.
To my ears, many of the songs here sound almost too busy. As his touring band has grown over the years, the need to keep every musician onstage occupied sometimes causes the piano to be overwhelmed. Everyone has a different set of ears, though. I just happen to prefer Billy Joel with a 5-piece band.
