Product Information
William Boeing and Donald Douglas are profiled in a revealing documentary that captures America's early love affair with the art of flying. A successful lumberman when he caught the aviation bug in the early 1900s, Boeing had a number of setbacks before realizing his dream of establishing an airmail route across the United States. One of the first aeronautical engineers, Donald Douglas designed the Cloudster to complete the first non-stop flight across the United States. Though that effort had to be abandoned due to engine problems, Douglas eventually found success building torpedo bombers and, later, in other commercial and military designs. This wonderfully informative documentary brings film footage that shows early flights. Even the Wright brothers early attempts are captured. Historical photographs, and music from the period animates an era where the adventure of flying was considered one of the most profound human endeavors. It is also an insightful study of entrepreneurial success, as these two men raced to capitalize on new technology and make a place for themselves in business history.
