Reviews"Hemingway's language is fibrous and athletic, colloquial and fresh, hard and clean... he packs a whole character into a phrase, an entire situation into a sentence or two. He makes each word count three or four ways." -- The New York Times "There's something immortal about these short pieces. They are absolute miracles of prose, of description, of evocation. They take you there." --Edna O'Brien "Ernest Hemingway is a new, honest, un-literary transcriber of life - a Writer." -- Time

  • early Hemingway

95 years after it was published, the prose is compelling; wonderful in its clarity; copy is in excellent condition, no markings, not much wear.

  • Hemingway's Literary star - when it was just beginning to glimmer....

Why is this a 5 star product? IT'S HEMINGWAY!!! His first published book when he was just in his early 20's, living in Paris with his first wife Hadley. The book is dedicated to her.

  • Some good, some not so good writing

Proclaimed to be one of Hemingway's best published work, but I am disappointed in the book and Hemingway to that extent. I can't recommend it even though there are some very nice short stories in the book.

  • The Truth Hurts

Hemingway was a complicated man. I am amazed by all he encountered in his lifetime. Mostly sad and brutal, but sobering in many ways.
