Product Information

Originally broadcast on Britain's BBC in late 2007, the miniseries CRANFORD was adapted from three popular 19th Century novels by Mary Gaskell: CRANFORD, MY LADY LUDLOW and MR. HARRISON'S CONFESSIONS. The saga takes place in Cranford, Northwetern England, circa 1842.The said community is a small market town where etiquette rules the populace. At the center of Cranford's social network, a tightly-knit group of ladies hold the reins of the community, including spinster Deborah Jenkyns and her sister Matty. Change is afoot, however: handsome physician Frank Harrison arrives from London, a retired Captain and his daughters take up residence in the village, and socialite Lady Ludlow begins to prepare for her garden party - with unexpected consequences when an ex-paramour turns up. Meanwhile, startling news arrives: a railway line will soon be installed that runs between Manchester and Cranford, and promises to permanently transform the fabric of the community. The follow-up miniseries, RETURN TO CRANFORD, aired in December 2009; it revisits the community and finds that significant transformations have occurred: Matty welcomes into her home Tilly, the daughter of the local maid and carpenter; Matty's friend Mr. Buxton returns to town with his son and niece in tow; and Matty reaches out to Peggy Bell, a troubled young woman who lives with her dysfunctional family in a distant cottage. Trouble erupts, however, that threatens to turn the entire community inside out. This box set features both CRANFORD and RETURN TO CRANFORD in their entirety, with a cast that includes Judi Dench and Imelda Staunton.

    Superb packaging using plastic sleeve to resist water damage plus heavy purpose-designed cardboard that covered all sides with ends open. Packaging was selected to protect the book without causing additional shipping costs. Shipping was fast with USPS. Book was in better condition than described with only the light writing on the back cover as shown in eay pics. No interior page damage, blemishes or tears. Everyone should know this is an excellent ebay resource.

    slice of 19th century English village life

    Well defined study of the various characters inhabiting a small English village. Progress comes but at a great price to reluctant villagers. Some achieve their goals while others sacrifice and lose. The acting is wonderful with Dame Judy Dench in a leading role. Gossip and supposition at times provides comic relief but at others leads to tragedy. All together, a thoroughly enjoyable tale.

    "Heartwarming"

    This movie really drives home what is important in life ( friends and family ) and even though we live in a different world today, the human spirit remains unchanged. What a refreshing change from some of the meaningless programming today. If you love movies that have a soul and stay with you then you must see this collection!

    Very Well Done Period Piece with Great Acting!

    This is one of the best of BBC's shows. Cranford and Return to Cranford are one of my favorite shows. I love historical period pieces and this is one of the finest.

    This is such a quaint, sweet story of three ladies one of them being the patriarch… You’ll find yourself caught up in the sweet story lines of each quirky and fun character!!

    The Cranford collection

    Wonderful surprise. I was not familiar with the book/DVD. Thoroughly enjoyed both Cranford and The Return to Cranford. Cranford is so good it forces you to watch the follow up Return To Cranford to see what happens next as the story continues.
