Synopsis
A searing satire of political corruption and social injustice from the celebrated author of Things Fall Apart In the fictional West African nation of Kangan, newly independent of British rule, the hopes and dreams of democracy have been quashed by a fierce military dictatorship. Chris Oriko is a member of the president's cabinet for life, and one of the leader's oldest friends. When the president is charged with censoring the opportunistic editor of the state-run newspaper--another childhood friend--Chris's loyalty and ideology are put to the test. The fate of Kangan hangs in the balance as tensions rise and a devious plot is set in motion to silence a firebrand critic. From Chinua Achebe, the legendary author of Things Fall Apart , Anthills of the Savannah is "A vision of social change that strikes us with the force of prophecy" ( USA Today )., A searing satire of political corruption and social injustice from the celebrated author of Things Fall Apart Achebe has written a story that sidesteps both ideologies of the African experience and political agendas, in order to lead us to a deeply human universal wisdom. -- Washington Post Book World In the fictional West African nation of Kangan, newly independent of British rule, the hopes and dreams of democracy have been quashed by a fierce military dictatorship. - u***g (119)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufItem was priced well and a good value, received in a very timely manner and well-packaged. Was in the exact condition described and appearance matched seller's picture(s). Would recommend seller unreservedly and will do business with them in the future. Although customer service was not needed for this sale, I have dealt with Book Outlet numerous times over the years and, when necessary, can say their customer service team is top-notch!
- i***c (891)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufThis is a frustrated positive feedback. I am always perplexed when sellers choose to ship via an "off-brand" shipper, e.g., OSM Worldwide. This tends to delay the time it takes to get to me vs more "traditioaal" shipped, e.g., USPS, UPS, or FED-EX. This is a pretty good seller. The price was good, the shipping pretty prompt (though deliver took a bit longer than I expected), and the communication was pretty good as well. The Men We Need: God's Purpose for the Manly Man, the Avid Indoorsman, or Any Ma (Nr. 365676100036)
- 2***h (1820)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThe book was carefully packaged and arrived in perfect condition. (Nothing is more upsetting than to buy a "coffee table" book of photos and have it arrive in a tattered condition due to insufficient packaging.) In this case, it arrived in the condition that was advertised by the seller. Thanks so much!!
