Unexpectedly good.
Although Edward Woodward was a brilliant actor I could never see him in the role of Sherlock Holmes. Having said that, this movie delivers some great performances and successfully captures the atmosphere of that period. It is an adventurous fun filled romp and gives the impression that the cast had a good time making it. Personally, I think that Anthony Andrews stole the show as the malevolent 'Moriarty'.

Unusual Sherlock Holmes movie
I felt from the first viewing years ago that the casting was backwards. Edward Woodward would have been a better Moriarty and Anthony Andrews would have made a great Sherlock Holmes. Having said that, the film still has merit and worth seeing.
