The Canon EOS 650 was the first of the many cameras produced under the iconic EOS banner. This Canon film camera features highly advanced, revolutionary technology that had never been used in any of it contemporaries. The BASIS sensor had been specifically developed for the Canon EOS 650 to control the AF - a first in the industry. Numerous metering modes enable this 35 mm SLR film camera to determine the correct exposure level for shooting a photo. With a top shutter speed of 1/2000 second, this Canon film camera delivers blur-free photos even when shooting fast-moving objects. With a sync speed of 1/60 seconds, the 35 mm SLR film camera ensures correct flash timing, for obtaining brighter photos in the dark. If you're looking for your first film camera.
Don't worry about AE-1's or A-1's or the like. They're massively too popular and overpriced as a result. Buy one of these. They're much cheaper, much more reliable and have much more dependable automation. And there's a manual mode if you feel like it - which manages to be reasonably useable. The ergonomics are modern - it's easy and intuitive to control and feels good and secure in the hand. It'll take ten minutes to figure out what the buttons do if you have any sort of familiariy with a camera. It'll take two seconds to figure out how to put film in it and turn the switch to 'Green Square' and make good pictures with metronomic reliability. It is built solidly - with plastic body panels on a heavy metal core. It can double-duty for hammering in nails, or fence-posts. Also, if you feel like it, you'll be able to walk into a Canon dealer and buy a brand new €10,000 EF lens and it'll work just as happily as it will on any 1Dx you'd care to throw at it. Image stabilisation and all.

OK so far
I've put only one film through my EOS650 so far so I can't really say how reliable it will be in the longer term but early signs are good. It appears well-built, it autofocuses well and the film was perfectly exposed. I wanted a film EOS for my Canon lenses and thought that this one, as the first EOS, should be a good start for a cheap price. Wow what a camera!
As a 35mm enthusiast I brought this camera to be able to use my digital lenses on a film camera and this does not disappoint one bit.
