As a young girl, Maleficent possessed radiant beauty and a pure heart. Her life in a quiet forest kingdom was a happy one until a fateful day when invading humans carved a swath of chaos throughout the land. Maleficent's selfless heroism during those dark times would become the stuff of legend, though it was an unspeakable act of betrayal that would ultimately shape her into the dreaded Mistress of All Evil. That diabolical transformation begins to take place when the vengeful Maleficent seeks to defeat the noble invader's successor, and places a curse on his infant daughter Aurora. Later, Maleficent discovers that the child she once cursed may possess the power to not only pull her back from the dark side, but to restore the peace in their battle-scarred land as well.     The backstory to Sleeping Beauty

    This is by far a better story with a more adult angle, with more depth. Not specifically a fairy tale but more a story about one specific fairy, a tale about the 'evil', slighted 'witch' Maleficent and how she got such a bee in her bonnet about Aurora. I see it as youth's innocence turned into trust betrayed is the theme running through the story on two levels. Reasonable special effects generally. A couple of things don't agree with the cartoon version of Sleeping Beauty but you could say, this is the real version as opposed to the cleaned up romanticised cartoon version. Both the leads,Jolie and Fanning, put their hearts and souls into their characters.

    Angelina Jolie at her Magnificent best !

    Disney's Meleficent is a really clever re-working of the Sleeping Beauty story, and the artistry and special effects are breath-taking ! You simply have to see this ! As you watch, you will start by adoring Meleficent as a child, and be totally captivated by her charm, then grieving for her pain, then being appalled at her evil ways, then you end up loving her and wishing she was your God Mother too ! It’s an emotional roller coaster !!!!! This is a Fairy story of the highest order for romantic adults. Share this experience with someone special, but have tissues and chocolates to hand ! ENJOY !

    The two CGI worlds: medieval castle/cot...

    The two CGI worlds: medieval castle/cottage & fairy woodland are wonderful. The cast is excellent. However, the tale takes a dark, misogynist tale from the brothers Grimm, and turns it into an equally dark tale about toxic masculinity, and how no man can ever be trusted. In this world, redemption is only available for the female of the species.
