  • Well worth seeing, not just for the story.

Based on 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'. (Worth reading the Wikipaedia article on the history of making this film.) Censorship prevented the whole book being filmed, so there are obvious missing bits of plot. BUT, it is full of inventive camerawork and subtle characters. As well as 'a good story well told', it is an excellent chance to see bygone Italian provincial life (way of life, how the police and judicial system function, style of dress, method of travelling around, social activity, etc.). Well worth seeing, and comparing to the French 'The Second Turning' and the USA Lana Turner/John Garfield versions.
