This serio-comedy follows an Alabama family as the meet up to support the clan's Uncle Hazel (Jim Varney), arrested on a murder charge and awaiting his trial in jail. when they hear the news about Uncle Hazel, Claude (Billy Bob Thornton), a struggling musician, and his wife Ruby (Laura Dern) return to the small Alabama town in which they grew up, but get caught in a web of family infighting. The strong cast includes, Diane Ladd, Andy Griffith, Kelly Preston, and appearances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Ben Affleck. Interestingly, this film would have been Thornton's first directorial work after his smashing SLING BLADE performance, but was not released until after his third film, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES.Product Identifiers

Won't play
This item is of some other format I'm not familiar with, the words disc error comes up on my and other friends players , it simply will not play and yet does look to be in good condition? This is my 2nd DVD of this movie
I've been loaning out my original copy of "Daddy & Them" so often that I thought it was time to get a copy for myself that I never loan out. Right now my original has yet to be returned. This is in the top 5 of my favorite movies. That may be because I have a brother who relocated Arkadelphia, Arkansas and loves it there. Me? Not so much. But it is an interesting locale. This movie portrayed the local flavor perfectly. This is Billy Bob Thornton's actual boyhood home setting. My God, they even mentioned Arkadelphia in one of the scenes. It is a bit bawdy, but that doesn't bother me at all. Laura Dern, Billy Bob's ladyfriend at the time is terrific. In fact, the entire cast is great. I was especially taken by the characters enacted by Andy Griffin [playing against type] and John Prine [not known for his acting, but fabulous --- especially in one of the out-take special features when he mispronounce Chlamydia]. This is a family portrait not to be missed. If I hadn't already met some of these types of Arkansans in person, I would have said that it was far fetched. Nasty fun
Billy Bob and Laura Dern are a perfect match. Crazy and a lots of sex stuff. So funny, reminded me of people I knew back in W Va. Glad they are not all like that. Movie Skipped

Southern Dry Humor
I've been a fan of this movie since it came out. As a John Prine fan I bought the movie when it first came out. The outtakes and deleted scenes are a blast.
