THE RED VIOLIN follows the unusual journey of an original and unique violin as it survives three centuries, ultimately turning up at a present-day auction in Montreal. The violin transforms all those who play it into a Svengali, from traveling Gypsies to a famous concert violinist in England. The mysterious object also narrowly avoids confiscation in Communist China, and seems to always survive the different lives of those it touches. In the present day it becomes the subject of fascination for a violin historian, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who discovers that he has stumbled upon the much sought after Red Violin, leading him to consider a deception of his own kind as the film nears its climax.

THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THIS MOVIE IS THE 🎻...VIOLIN...BUT THERES SO MUCH ELSE GOING ON ALSO....SEX....THE BITRTH OF A BABY...AND BURIAL OF THE 🎻...VIOLIN....AND A WOMAN SHOOTING AT THE 🎻...VIOLIN...WHILE 2 PEOPLE HAVING SEX......AN OLD LOVER...SHOWS UP...AND YES...THE 🎻...VIOLIN....IT HAVE BLOOD MIXED IN THE VARNISH.....2MILLION TO BUY IT.....BUT IT WAS STOLEN....CRAZY BUT A GOOD MOVIE...........

Powerful tale of irony.
Tale of irony .....one has to wonder after all the bad luck connected with the Red Violin WHY Morritz would think he could walk away with the violin and subsequently not be subject to the same "curse" possibly. EH?Just saying!

Was the Ancient Red Violin Cursed?
Attractively photographed, thought provoking DVD about a unique, ancient violin's history. The diverse owners over the years make for fascinating viewing. The intrigue surrounding the violin owners' lives kept my interest. Joshua Bell plays beautifully. Powerful movie for music history aficionados and more. Recommended.

This is a really good movie
The story begins in 1681 Italy and ends in current time in Montreal. There are time jumps, all well handled and never confusing. I especially liked how they handled the Tarot reading as it not obvious at first what's going on here. Very clever. Subtitles are a requirement unless you speak Italian.

Wonderful Story! Good Value.
Watched this video years ago. Wonderful story. Bought it for a girl at our church who plays the violin. She also thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great film - compelling.
Follows the violin's ownership with a cleverly conceived narrative. Surprising, very entertaining. Extremely well acted.
