This is the classic cinematic version of Tennessee Williams's breathtaking play about a crazed southern family torn apart by greed. Larger-than-life patriarch Big Daddy (Burl Ives) lays dying, and the members of his brood clamor for the inheritance. Paul Newman is Brick, the alcoholic son struggling in the shadow of his powerful father, and Elizabeth Taylor is Maggie, Brick's lingerie-clad temptress of a wife who will do anything for the love of her cold husband. Brick's younger brother, Gooper (Jack Carson), and his wife, Mae (Madeleine Sherwood), strive for Big Daddy's approval, but even though they have children and a successful marriage, Big Daddy is dedicated to Brick, a former football star with his own personal demons. Tensions mount as the family is forced together under one roof, where secrets are revealed and relationships are lost and found. Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman's performances serve as cinematic icons; the heat and hatred between them ignites the screen, fueled by Tennessee Williams's insightful and brilliant dialogue.

Exciting to watch, leaves a pleasant feeling in the brain.
Excellent adult entertainment. No murder, no rape, only plenty of alcohol. Raw adult emotions come to the surface and old problems get solved. Great screen play, great acting.

A Compelling Classic Story Not to be Missed
An all time classic movie and story, no serious film aficionado should miss. Burl Ives is the grumpy overweight millionaire "Big Daddy" who oversees his family and plantation and business empire without compassion, heart and with an iron fist. Ultimately, love triumphs over the chaos that ensues with his families awareness of his impending death. Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor performances shine brightly like diamonds, that won each of them best acting awards at the Oscars in 1958. A timeless story.

My wife loves this movie !!!!
the actors in the movie are very beleveable . Burel Ives as big daddy, Paul Newman as Brick a former super star football player and track man from the high school years hiding in the bottle from his past. High drama of family infighting for control and money!!!!

Great hit home movie...
In my opinion it's one of the best movies ever written what a great performance by all the characters it really helps you figure out the complications in families and move pass some of what needs to be moved passed

A vintage classic movie.
Paul Newman and Liz Taylor are very compatible and compliment each other in this melodrama. "Big Daddy" was also a major factor in making this movie compelling.

great movie, i am specific, it is a great movie, elizabeth taylor is fantastic, especialy considering her husband died while she was making this movie, yet she finished it, paul newman was great
