    Spot Gen III

    My son does a considerable amount of hiking by himself. This unit makes tracking his movement easy, and in case of a real emergency, he has the ability for a rescue call. Great price, but the service contract is a bit expensive. Great piece of mind for his wife.

    Save your life

    This small thing can save your life in case if you in danger situation in place, where you can't make a call. Also you can inform your friends, parents etc. what you are ok. If you like any kind of outdoor activity related to risk and places without stable GSM connection, this device is "must have".

    Spot Gen 3

    The unit housing and controls are very well built and seem durable. Paid service is required to use the device. Setup is fairly simple. Powered by AAA lithium batteries. It provides comfort & assurance when in remote areas that don't have cell service; knowing you'll be able to get a call for help out makes you feel like you're still connected. Being able to check in to let family know you're ok gives them peace of mind.

    Easy to use great value and safety for the money

    Simple interface, which is what you need when you are in a tough spot. Could be lighter. Seems to be robust enough to handle rough conditions, such as snow and rain. I have not yet put it to the test there. It did fail to send one check-in message when I used it on a hike. Not sure if it was operator error or if satellite coverage was missing. The second check-in worked fine from essentially the same location.

    Never fails, peace of mind.

    Used even in very remote points of New Zealand (north and south islands) and on Australian coast - it never fails to transmit. Also used during trip to Kenai Peninsula , Alaska. I travel alone, and wife has peace of mind that I'm still alive when she receives daily notices. Online setup allows multiple email addresses to keep a lot of people in the loop, and links to visual google map image of exact coordinates to show them where I am. I lost my first spot gen3 so had to buy a second. Kicking myself, but Galapagos Islands, here I come next. Item is very rugged, and repels water very well. I've never submerged, but have been in heavy rain. Orange color help spotting if you set down to transmit and I recommend clipping your car keys to it if you do set it down so you don't drive off ...
