Reynolds, Ward, at their best. Awesome bad guy. Great casting.
I'm from Atlanta and loved this movie since I saw it back when it first came out (I was 18 at the time). Reynolds is a cop and does a great job. It's a serious role and he doesn't disappoint. Rachel Ward is the best looking I've ever seen her in this movie, too. She nails her role, showing her acting skills while being drop-dead gorgeous. The villain is creepy as he_ _! He does an incredible job with his role as the bad guy. The supporting characters are all decent actors and were well cast for the movie. The end is awesome, too. SPOILER ALERT: A fall from the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. Awesome stunt and end to the movie. I just had to own the DVD and can't believe I waited so long to buy it. My review overall: 9.5.

80s Noir Action Feature
An 80s noir film w Burt Reynolds as an Atlanta cop fighting the bureaucracy, the local crime lord, politicians on the take, and Henry Silva, as a psychotic hit man. The film begins w Reynolds, as Sharkey, as part of a narcotics bust that goes awry, and Reynolds gets demoted from narcotics to vice for the bad result. Once there, Sharkey gets a new assignment, surveilling the local vice criminals, and we get to see Sharkey's skill set emerge as he begins building working relationships w the other cops in vice and support. We get to see how they work together to target the local crime lord, and set up to build their case against him. We get bosses trying to control the scope of Sharkey's work, we get the crime lord's reach trying to keep Sharkey's team from interfering w their business network, we get nervous politicians pressuring the cops to keep Sharkey's team from embarrassing them, we get Rachel Ward as the crime lord's girl friend and Sharkey's new romantic interest, and we get Henry Silva as the drugged out bad guy, running around shooting people. We get shoot outs, tension build ups, misdirections, and we get stuntman Dar Robinson doing one of his world-famous falls from an Atlanta high rise, as part of the action We get such pros as Brian Keith, Charles Durning, Bernie Casey, Richard Libertini and John Fiedler creating the interesting characters who make up Sharkey's Machine, and make this an interesting film to watch. Enjoy!

Fun wayback machine movies, get some !
c'mon Bert Reynolds in his prime action movies ! He was in some very good action films, He made this just as I was enlisting in the U.S. NAVY,.Great memories ! Very Good escape entertainment, Burt lives for-ever in film !

Great Late Night watching.
Great movie with a terrific sound track unobtainable anywhere else. I challenge you to find Julie London singing "My Funny Valentine" anywhere else. Also Chet Bakers version is great and Sarah Vaughn is outstanding in the tirle song. Undoubtedly his best movie. Highly recommended.

Good movie
Good police action movie, also a good movie if you're a die hard Burt Reynolds fan. Jokingly rumored this movie was to have been another Dirty Harry movie called Dirty Harry Goes To Atlanta. Since Reynolds was the director and Clint Eastwood was not too interested in this project, Reynolds made the character of Sharky his own.

Good characters.
Older movie. I like Burt Reynolds and Rachael Ward. Doesn't have all special effects like movies nowadays. Simple.

Well Rachael ward and burt Reynolds vice cop in Atlanta are amazing ward is beyond beautiful at this point in her career and life her accent is a gazillion times sexy shes beautiful a woman its kool too see this interaction Reynolds & ward wow this is a keeper

Reynolds Machine
Best movie Burt Reynolds ever made, by far. You can believe him as a cop. He's romantic, hilarious, and tuff as nails. The rest of the cast are equally good and play off each other like they've worked together all they're lives. You will not be disappointed.

Spectacular Acting.
Excellent theme and story. Burt Reynolds is a favorite. Henry Silver is just ousts ding. (Johnny Cool) Rachel Ward is a natural. Make the movie available.
