Product Information

This swinging spoof of Ian Fleming's spy hero features an aging James Bond (David Niven), reluctantly dragged out of retirement to chase down the evil crime clique called SMERSH. In order to confound the forces led by the villainous Le Chiffre (Orson Welles), the Secret Service enlists five other agents, also under the name "Bond," and all six converge on the titular casino. Meanwhile, Woody Allen, as the retiring secret agent's nephew, causes havoc at every turn.The gleefully chaotic product of five directors, numerous screenwriters, and the late 1960s in general, CASINO ROYALE revels in its psychedelic spy satire premise. The comedy features a legion of stars in roles both large and small: Niven, Welles, Allen, Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, William Holden, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jacqueline Bisset, Deborah Kerr, and many more. (Apparently, Sellers and Welles despised each other, and Sellers would frequently not show up for his scenes.) Amid the wackiness, there are genuine moments of hilarity, making the film a surreal romp through Bond lore and the more eccentric aspects of 1960s pop culture.

    This purchase was my third sports theme collage from this seller, who professionally designs and lays out the theme on a matting board. For this collage, the seller balanced a photo of the two teams in a coin toss, a first day of issue stamped cover with an action photo of one of the teams, a line score of the game and a header announcing the theme and teams involved. A great visual mix. Seller excels at communication, packages carefully and ships fast. A great value for the price.

    Spoof of 007 but is not entertaining nor funny,

    I have all the James Bond movies. I knew this was a spoof of the James Bond character but it left me wanting. It was campy but not very funny. I am pleased I now have it but I am sorry I spent actual money to get it. Someone else might enjoy it but I watched it once but that is the first and last time I will watch it. It was not entertaining nor interesting. Sorry but that is how I feel.

    An unusual and far out take on James Bond.

    Only James Bond movie I didn't have, and never seen. Was one of the most ridiculous movies I've ever seen? Still it completed my 007 collection. Happy to have seen it.

    Somehow I remembered it differently.

    The last time I watched this movie I was just a kid. I remembered it as being really a cool movie. I guess now that I am way older, I have matured or my likes have changed and I just don't care for the movie. It is made as a spoof and I get that. But it is still in that late 60s humor of Rowen and Martins laugh in style and it just does not work anymore.

    Not my favorite

    It was or has a weird vibe to it . Not sure if I was expecting a more serious James Bond based on the franchise? I knew it was a comedic take off and was disappointed. I do like comedies, I was a fan of some of the actors … and no I wouldn’t watch it again for @ entertainment “

    A bit out there, but fun.

    The David Niven movie is certainly a far cry from the official Bond films, but as long as you're prepared to put away your sensible side it's a bit of fun. The great thing about this DVD for me though is that the special features include the original appearance of Bond, in the Climax Theatre production of Casino Royale, starring Barry Nelson as the American (!) James "Jimmy" Bond, & co-starring Michael Pate as the British Clarence Leiter.
