Excellent Cult Movie from the early 1970's !!
As a fan of fast car movies along with being a big music fan I picked up a copy of "Two-Lane Blacktop" when it came out on Blu-Ray. The movie is centered around 2 guys (James Taylor & Dennis Wilson) cruising the country looking for a race. Their 1955 Chevy is incredibly fast as Taylor is the driver and Wilson is the mechanic ! A 19 year old Laurie Bird plays the young girl that ends up tagging along with the boys as they head east across the country looking for a race. Warren Oates is excellent as G.T.O. driving a 1970 GTO with a 455 Ram Air motor that he is always bragging about ! The movie is dated but fun to watch seeing a young James Taylor & beach boy Dennis Wilson try their hand at an acting career. The Blu-Ray edition has excellent picture & sound quality in 5.1 surround sound ! ... Decent 1970s movie with great cinematography and amazing extras!
This review is more about the quality of the extras on the Criterion blu ray version of this movie than about the movie itself. The movie sums up as an interesting piece from an era that had seen several movies like this, in Easy Rider and the like. Late 60s and early 1970s youth, that are living a life in transition. James Taylor is better than I thought, in his limited dialog role, but with a brooding feeling that fit the character, isolated in his passions. Movies like this get me searching wikipedia for "where they are today", and the actress Laurie Bird, who played the young girl in the movie, died of an overdose in 1979. In this movie she was only 18, and she really pulled off the similar disenfranchised role. The extras on this Criterion blu ray version is ... This review is more about the quality of the extras on the Criterion blu ray version of this movie than about the movie itself. With amazing still photos of the original and reclaimed and restored autos. Excellent screen tests of both Bird and James Taylor, that included candid questions about his music, and additional an unplugged version of one of his songs that makes this worth adding to any collection. Excellent.

Good flick...
I like the movie because I used to drag race a 66 SS 396 Rat back in the 70s. It was pretty much the same. Tilt front end, Mr. Gasket Vertical Gate, 456 posi, fiberglass trunk and doors. Ladder bars, drive line loop, and real headers with cut outs welded on. Furthermore, my brother and I did race this dude in a ford gal from portland, or to Idaho for the drags. It was so much fun. Back in those days there were no cops so, you could blast down the road. So, in ending. This movie is kind of us back in the early 70s. Back when the world was less the BS of today and your ability to have fun wasn't impeded by f###ing GPS, and computers. I like the movie because I used to drag race a 66 SS 396 Rat back in the 70s.
