Great - Small Great Things.
I really love Jodi Picout's writing. It spoils me for other authors. Her books are so extraordinarily well researched that they are educational and informative as well as thrilling. She writes in an easy way, syntax, punctuation and a lovely kind of rythm that carries the reader along. Her characters are so deep and believable they seem to be real. This book was about race and prejudice and taught me much about the divisions in America (as I live in Britain and know nothing). But also about compassion and love. I was impressed with the way her 'evil' or most prejudiced character was shown to have real and believable emotions and did, eventually, lose his hate. I found this book, and the extreme differences of the characters, made me firstly confused and need to examine my own feelings and, hopefully, know myself better. A unique, multi-point-of-view page-turner of a story that opens your eyes to human nature.
A superbly written story that is the outcome of an everyday tragedy in a hospital ward. Jodi Picoult writes superbly, giving her characters strengths and weaknesses that interplay in dramatic ways amongst the opportunists and well-wishers, the bewildered and the lawyers as people's futures balance on a knife edge. My first instinct after I'd finished the book was to get everyone to read it. Do you know a midwife? Buy them this book. Do you think you understand human nature? Buy this book. Do you enjoy a good courtroom drama? Buy this book. Jody Picoult switches to different people's points of view throughout. Most of the characters are angry, hurting or both. Some want to take it out on others - physically if possible! Everyone learns a great deal more about themselves by the end of the story, (which has a dramatic twist, by the way) but so does the reader!Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht
