    nice, like cotton candy but needs weight

    I could say Yes to "Is it a good value?" but I had to mitigate. This must be a Korean copy as there were only English & Korean subtitles (bootleg? dunno...). The subtitles in the first half of the movie came and went, very sparse sometimes, maybe this was how they originally did it. Anyway, it's a cute story, but it takes a bit long to get moving. It's not nearly as hard hitting as, say, "Catch 22". Sort of lazy European sideshow cutups sort of thing. The end was very touching, where some of the soldiers return to the island in old age. Get smashed on wine with your girl and watch it, you'll like it but may not re-watch it.

    A little disappointing

    I saw this movie in a theater when it came out and own the VHS version. What I noticed while watching the DVD is 1) some random imperfections in the subtitles -- extraneous letters that interfere with the translation, and 2) irregular breaks in the closing credit music. I mention this because the music is an enjoyable part of the movie, even at the end. Korean markings on DVD cover and it defaults to Korean subtitles and had to change to English, so this may have something to do with mfg origin.

    Great movie, poor quality DVD and hard to get to from Korean to English subtitles

    The dvd has skips and stops, difficult to get from Korean to English subtitles. Excellent movie though.

    Sweet movie, cool characters

    The dvd quality was not great but this is a sweet movie. It won an academy award.
