Relevant but Laboured
Relevant application of mythology to today’s humanity. I find this book is a good tool to encourage introspection and maturation. However the author seems to rephrase and repeat similar stories/ideas. Wasn't what I thought it would be
Bly came very highly recommended by my favorite author. However, I felt like his ability as a writer caused him to use too many words. I feel like this book could have easily been 45 pages rather than 270. I like the idea he was trying to convey, but felt like he danced around the topic more than simply said what he wanted to say. Iron John by Robert Bly.
This is a book by a man, for men. I will personally recommend all men to read a copy and make their own decision on it's worth. For me, it explains a lot, right or wrong, about men these days. Regrettably, the book was written in 1990, and things have changed a lot regarding masculinity, but then again, some things never change. Light weight for a hardback book.
Second half life stuff, which doesn’t mean you need to be old to benefit from this poet and his stories. If your father was absent and your mother was sort of controlling (abandonment issues and love as transactional), this book may be a swell beginning to reclaim your true self.
