Synopsis
This highly acclaimed first novel introduces an intrepid pair of tough Boston private investigators, Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro. The duo are confronted by a cadre of powerful Boston politicos offering big money to locate a missing cleaning woman. As the investigation unfolds, the partners are soon drawn into the deadly crossfire among warring political factions., As richly complex and brutal as the terrain it depicts, here is the mesmerizing, darkly original novel that heralded the arrival of Dennis Lehane, the master of the new "noir" -- and introduced Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, his smart and tough private investigators weaned on the blue-collar streets of Dorchester. A cabal of powerful Boston politicians is willing to pay Kenzie and Gennaro big money for a seemingly small job: to find the missing cleaning woman who stole some secret documents. As Kenzie and Gennaro learn, however, this crime is no ordinary theft. It's about justice. About right and wrong. But in Boston, finding the truth isn't just a dirty business ... it's deadly., Kenzie and Gennaro are private investigators in the blue-collar neighborhoods and ghettos of South Boston-they know it as only natives can. Working out of an old church belfry, Kenzie and Gennaro take on a seemingly simple assignment for a prominent politician: to uncover the whereabouts of Jenna Angeline, a black cleaning woman who has allegedly stolen confidential state documents. Finding Jenna, however, is easy compared to staying alive once they've got her. The investigation escalates, implicating members of Jenna's family and rival gang leaders while uncovering extortion, assassination, and child prostitution extending from bombed-out ghetto streets to the highest levels of government. A Drink Before the War, the first in Lehane's acclaimed series with Boston detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro, is a remarkable debut that is at once a pulsating crime thriller and a mirror of our world, one in which the worst human horrors are found closest to home, and the most vicious obscenities are committed in the name of love.

- g***a (77)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufI received a different version of the item that was advertised - but am extremely happy to report that Clarissa responded quickly and, once it was confirmed, issued a refund without delay. I've ordered from this vendor in the past: wonderful high quality books, & have always enjoyed quick replies with helpful information, great prices and fast shipping. Mistakes happen. Rock solid customer service is RARE. Thank you, Clarissa for handling the discrepancy so well. I'll def buy from you again!Flor y Canto; Tercera Edición Words and Music- 9781579921583, hardcover, Various (Nr. 388314820808)
- s***t (2239)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter Kauf🎈🎈🧨🧨🎈🎈 This seller is all about service and customer satisfaction!! I ordered a book, received a book (very fast shipping), but it was not the title I ordered (same subject matter). I sent a message explaining what happened, received very quick response that was apologetic and requesting some additional info about the book I received. Sent that info and again very quick response. The book I wanted was not in stock, a full refund was issued, and I was allowed to keep the book I received!!😀
- 5***5 (306)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufUnfortunately I never received books, but it wasn’t seller’s fault. Tracking info proved items were honestly mailed out on time, so either postal service lost/mis-delivered package or it was stolen from my building mailroom. Whatever the case, seller gave me a full refund. I really appreciate them making it right & although I bought the books I wanted elsewhere, this seller is aboveboard & can be trusted & I’d buy from them again.
