David Fincher's (FIGHT CLUB, SE7EN) adaptation of the Robert Graysmith book masterfully transports viewers to the Bay Area in the 1960s and '70s by drawing on actual case files from the notoriously unsolved Zodiac killer mystery. As a murderer with seemingly random targets starts sending terrifying threats and cryptic codes to police and publishers all around San Francisco, fear and paranoia descend on the city. Through slow pacing, Fincher creates an effectively chilling atmosphere in which he spins a thick web of character-driven plotlines. Early scenes depicting the Zodiac's first-known murders vividly capture the victim's fear and agony and will leave viewers haunted. When the Zodiac's ciphers arrive at the San Francisco Chronicle, they spark the interest of Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal), a young cartoonist with a penchant for puzzles. As the former Boy Scout earnestly tries to decode the messages, eccentric reporter Paul Avery approaches the case from a career-boosting angle. Meanwhile, a string of investigators from four jurisdictions carry on a complex and unsatisfying search for the elusive killer. Inspectors Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and Bill Armstrong (Anthony Edwards) at times collide with Avery and Graysmith, whose interest in the case extends long after most have given up. Even at two-and-a-half hours in length, this dense murder mystery should manage to keep its audience riveted throughout. Paired with stellar performances from Ruffalo, Downey, Gyllenhaal, and countless others, a clever script produces well-developed characters, and the film's art direction, music, and costumes all combine to create an authentic sense of time and place. The somber tone of the atmospheric thriller gives the film a documentary-like aesthetic at times, lending weight to the story's facts while never relying on cheap tricks. Unlike murder mysteries such as THE BLACK DAHLIA, ZODIAC invites viewers to develop theories of their own, allowing them to come to their own conclusions.Product Identifiers

Rather "Zodiac" was 'real to life' or straight out 'malarkey' it was great and fun to watch.
I don't know if this DVD had an accurate account of the Zodiac and the answer to his identity. I've never found the Zodiac Killer as a very interesting bad guy, historically. This film was about newspaper guys trying to figure out who the Zodiac was and how it affected their lives. The main characters are played by: Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. With the lion's share being: Jake Gyllenhaal. Both were excellent. Robert Downey Jr. seemed to be using his character as a prelude to the future 'Tony Stark'. I would assume "Zodiac" falls into ; "Drama" which usually isn't a great genre. But once in a while drama has a winner. The plot of: "Zodiac" is just the story of the news paper men investigating The Zodiac Killer. Maybe completely true or maybe Hollywood hyped, I don't know. Top notch camera work, light, sound, back drops/sets, and everything else. Great music from that time. (I liked most of the songs that would be found on the sound track- probably comparable music picks to the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" sound track) This was well made, it was interesting, with a good pace. Great movie!

Perfect stocking stuffer for true crime fans
The DVD came in good condition in its original case. Arrived on time.Disc was in great shape with barely any noticeable scratches that can only be seen up close. DVD works great with no issues. Movie itself is excellent with a star studded cast that is mostly true to real life events and graysmith's book. Would recommend reading the book before watching the movie to better understand it. Would buy again. 9/10.

Best serial killer movie
This is an epic movie about a Serial Killer! There are three main characters covering different aspects of the Zodiac phenomenon.I first saw this 11 years ago and have watched it about 4 or 5 times since and am still entertained when watching it.
