Reviews"Intelligent and captivating...Don't miss it." - People Magazine "One of the best celebrity memoirs of the year ... elegantly written and revealing." - The Hollywood Reporter "Carly Simon could have gotten away with just the name-dropping. In her life, she's crossed paths with an astonishing range of famous people, from Cat Stevens and Jimi Hendrix to Benny Goodman and Albert Einstein. So it's a pleasant surprise that in her compelling new autobiography, Boys in the Trees , she lays out her naked emotions and insecurities, and that she proves to be a supple writer with a gift for descriptions."- Rolling Stone "A lyrical look back at her childhood, her career, and oh, the men in her life...anecdote-filled...dishy without being salacious. There's plenty here for fans to feast upon" - USA Today, "Intelligent and captivating...Don't miss it." - People Magazine "One of the best celebrity memoirs of the year ... elegantly written and revealing." - The Hollywood Reporter ?"Carly Simon could have gotten away with just the name-dropping. As one of pop music's more literate songwriters -- she was the first solo woman to win a Best Song Oscar for Let the River Run from Working Girl -- Simon writes beautifully and affectingly. Her publisher father, for whom she clamored for attention and validation, would be proud." - Miami Herald

  • A must for Carly Simon fans

If you're a Carly Simon fan, this book provides insights into her life and lots of previously unknown (to me) events. That she lacked confidence and considered herself the homely little sister is incredible to me. There are also many photos of her throughout her life and career. Carly is a romantic and I found some sections where she gives detailed descriptions of clothes, smells, etc. a little tedious. Overall a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed!

  • Awful book

I do not recommend this book. I found it offensive. Why the author would brag about so many horrible things is beyond me. She paints self as a promiscuous woman and her former husband, James Taylor, as a junkie. I really do not enjoy reading pages about somebody’s personal and psychological problems. I’m sorry I ever bought this book or read it.

  • Still haven't figured that out as I am still engrossed in the book.

A compelling bio and it brings the 70's to life as it was for the majority of us former hippies. I would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in some of the best music of the 60's and 70's and those interested in the people behind the music. It also provides an insider's view of the early (and wild) days of feminism.

  • Boys In The Trees

Great find at a great price ! I'm reading this Carly Simon book again after listening to her audiobook. I recommend BOTH ! Fine writing, an exceptional accounting of Carly's early life and journey into the music world. Candid with plenty celebrity behind the scenes interactions, she describes her loves, connections with other musicians and her marriage to James Taylor. There are so many passages that read as poetic prose with enchanting rhythm that I stopped to re-read these to savor the telling in its rare richness. You'll find emotional content that's detailed about Carly's incredible journey in life as a smart, witty and highly intelligent songwriter/singer. Her descriptive voice in writing is refreshing as well as quite touching.

  • GIRL POWER

THIS BOOK WAS GREAT FUN TO READ, SINCE I AM A BIG CARLY SIMON FRIEND FROM THE 70s. THE WRITING STYLE WAS LIGHT AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. IT HAS PICTURES AND SHE SHARED HER EXPERIENCES IN LOVE, MUSIC AND HER LYRICS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO FANS AND ANYONE WHO HAS A HEART FOR ROCK AND FOLK MUSIC. REMALE READERS WILL READ SO MUCH THAT THEY RELATE TO PERSONALLY- EVEN IF MUSIC IS NOT A BIG PART OF THEIR LIVES. THIS BOOK IS ON MY SHELF AMONG MY FAVORITES.

  • Great autobiography!

I didn't know much about Carly Simon's life before reading this book. But it gave me an understanding of her inspiration for writing the songs she has made famous. And I understand more now about her relationship with James Taylor. If you are into his or her music at all, this is a great read! I've already passed it on to someone who I think will enjoy it as much as I did.
