The longest and (in retrospect) most significant of the sixth-season DOCTOR WHO adventures, "The War Games" began its ten-week run on April 9, 1969. The TARDIS materializes on a planet that bears a remarkable resemblance to Earth. But there are a few differences: for one thing, the landscape seems to be festooned with battlefields; for another, the combatants are garbed in costumes from a vast and dizzying array of countries and centuries. The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury) struggle against kidnapping, a death sentence, the War Lord, and other dangers in this epic story arc. "The War Games" was written by Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks.

Wow what a story
If you’re a Whovian, you absolutely MUST watch this story. It introduces the time lords (save the monk in the time meddler) and is a fantastic way to say goodbye to quite possibly the best TARDIS crew ever. A pivotal point in Who history.

The end of an era. The last of the Black & White episodes but the Patrick Troughton Doctor set the pattern for all future Doctors.

great story nice farewell to Patrick Troughton. The regeneration scene was poor compared to others but its an important introduction to the Time Lords

Rare gem.
I got on the Who train late, so some of the stories are harder to find than others. But thanks to the folks here, it was a bit easier. Oh, & the story’s good, too.
