Overwhelmingly loud orchestra
This is a traditionally staged but older performance, in 4:3 video format. The quality of the audio and video is typical of the 1970s and 1980s. The vocal portions of this are excellent, when you can hear them. Throughout Act 1, the orchestra was so loud that it was difficult to hear the vocalists. That, fortunately, did not continue, through the other acts but it did make watching and listening to Act 1 tedious, at best. Te Kanawa, Luxon, Skram, Catrubas, von Strade and Rintzler were all in excellent voice.
