Product Information

THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW premiered in 1960 and, featuring one of the most beloved television fathers of all time, quickly charmed its way into the hearts of audiences. Set in the fictitious environs of Mayberry, North Carolina, the series chronicles daily life in that peaceful Southern hamlet through the gently humorous eyes of town sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith). A widower raising his young son, Opie (a pre-HAPPY DAYS Ron Howard), with the help of his live-in spinster aunt, Bee (Frances Bavier), Andy capably navigates single parenthood with the same good-hearted wisdom that he brought to his law-enforcement duties. Featuring special guest appearances by Jack Nicholson, Rob Reiner, the Darlings, and Don Knotts (who left the show at the end of the sixth season), this collection presents all 30 episodes of the series' seventh season, including fan favorites like "The Darling Fortune," "A Visit to Barney Fife," and "Barney Comes to Mayberry."

  • ONE OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD

I bought this set with some hesitation. Yes, it's in color, but the show was a little past its prime by season seven. I would say about ten out of the thirty episodes on this set are worth repeat viewings. Of course, the must-have episodes are the two guest appearances by Don Knotts, who had left the show on Andy's assurance that the show would not continue past the fifth season. "A Visit To Barney Fife" has Barney as the unwitting accomplice of a family of supermarket thieves, and "Barney Comes To Mayberry" finds Barney still smitten with an ex-girlfriend who is now a Hollywood starlet. Of the other 28 episodes, there are a few highlights, but mostly lowlights, to be found: "Opie's Girlfriend" Opie's ego suffers a bruising (and he gets a black eye) thanks to Helen Crump's niece. "The Lodge" Who blackballed Howard from joining the lodge? And who cares?! "The Barbershop Quartet" Andy recruits a prisoner to sing high tenor in his quartet. Yawn! "The Ball Game" Was Opie safe or was he out? Again, who cares? "Aunt Bee's Crowning Glory" An entire episode about Aunt Bee's wig. Finally! "The Darling Fortune" Briscoe wants his boy to marry Helen Crump. "Mind Over Matter" Goober and his psychosomatic illness. "Politics Begin At Home" Bee Taylor versus Howard Sprague for Town Council. "The Senior Play" The old clichéd theme of the Establishment versus Rock And Roll, featuring Helen Crump. "Opie Finds A Baby" Opie finally learns where babies come from- baskets left on doorsteps! "Big Fish In A Small Town" Howard catches Old Sam, and incurs the wrath of Mayberry's fishing set. "Only A Rose" An entire episode about Aunt Bee's entry in a flower show. YAAAAAAWN!! "Otis The Deputy" Otis returns to the show just in time to rescue Andy from some desperate characters. "Goober Makes History" Goober grows a beard and starts believing that he's intelligent. "A New Doctor In Town" Andy urges the townspeople to give Doctor Mulcahey a chance, then refuses to let him operate on Opie. "Don't Miss A Good Bet" Andy is proven to be a hypocrite once again, telling townspeople not to fall for a con man's line, yet falls for it himself. "Dinner At Eight" Andy would rather eat three or four spaghetti dinners in one evening than simply tell his friends that he's already eaten. "A Visit To Barney Fife" Barney unknowingly helps a family of supermarket thieves ply their trade. "Barney Comes To Mayberry" Barney reunites with an ex-girlfriend who is now a famous actress. "Andy's Old Girlfriend" Helen is shocked to learn that Andy's former girlfriend is now living in his house! "Aunt Bee's Restaurant" East meets West as Aunt Bee becomes Number One Son's partner in a Chinese restaurant. "Floyd's Barbershop" Howard buys Floyd's building and raises his rent, along with his ire. "The Statue" Andy's legendary ancestor is found to be a person of dubious character. "Helen, The Authoress" Andy learns to resent Helen's newfound fame as a writer. "Goodbye, Dolly" Opie cares for a depressed horse that is facing unemployment. (No, not Mr. Ed!) "Opie's Piano Lesson" Opie unsuccessfully tries to balance football and piano lessons. "Howard, The Comedian" The townspeople resent being made the butt of Howard's jokes on local TV. "Big Brother" Howard Sprague says sayonara to his ward and runs off with the kid's hot older sister. "Opie's Most Unforgettable Character" Opie, seemingly suffering from selective amnesia, can't think of anything interesting to write about his father. "Goober's Contest" Floyd cries fraud after being told his winning ticket contained a typo.

  • Clean and funny as can be

Wholesome, clean, funny good old days fun and happy with good morality. No need for bad language, or anything else offensive, no crudeness or sexual innuendo to be really funny. Better than the junky trash on today!
