So-So Book for Real M*A*S*H Fans
This book, mostly (1) pretty good photos from episodes, (2) essays about their involvement in the production by most of the principal stars, and (3) often questionably reliable episode plot summaries, could have been far better than it is. It seems to have been rushed through to meet someone's publication date. Serious fans will not find enough new or compelling material here to persuade them that it is something they really need; more casual fans might like it on the coffee table. There are some really fine books that do far better what this purports to do. One written for the 1980s British Grenada "Sherlock Holmes" series, with Jeremy Brett as Holmes, is much better in nearly every respect by including, for example, highly accurate plot summaries and episode actor listings. I guess it could be said---as disappointed troops used to say about Army chow---that it is O.K. for what it is. "What it is," unfortunately, is not all that much.
