Luckily I was going to replace the i5 motherboard with an i7 I already have and this has solved the problem. Boosted RAM to 16gb and performing well. Otherwise the laptop was in very good condition with no marks on the screen, bezel or keypads and surround. Very minor scratches on lid/cover and base but as expected on a laptop this old. Overall a bargain at £145.
