    I bought a copy of this book decades ago and my in-laws borrowed it. It was never returned. Long years later I noticed a reference to the book online, searched for it, and found a good copy for sale. It's basically a cookbook with recipes more than 200 years old, from all over the world. Do you have an interest in the history of food? You'll probably enjoy this book. Did you like the adventure novels of Patrick O'Brian, or the Russell Crowe film Master and Commander? This book is for you, then. Chefs, hikers, hunters, fishers, survivalists, and anyone with a garden will find Lobscouse and Spotted Dog a useful resource.

  • Great cookbook about the 17th century foods in the "Master and Commander" O'Brian books

    If you've ever read the Patrick O'brian "Master and Commander" books about Jack Aubrey you should get this book. It's a culinary overview of most of the food mentioned in the series, along with recipes for them. The writing and directions are clear and entertaining. Just fun to read through the book and looking forward to trying to cook some of the dishes!
