Olive is the axis around which these thirteen complex, relentlessly human narratives spin themselves into Elizabeth Strout's unforgettable novel in stories." --O: The Oprah Magazine "Fiction lovers, remember this name: Olive Kitteridge . . . . You'll never forget her. . . . [Elizabeth Strout] constructs her stories with rich irony and moments of genuine surprise and intense emotion. . . . Glorious, powerful stuff." --USA Today "Funny, wicked and remorseful, Mrs. Kitteridge is a compelling life force, a red-blooded original. When she's not onstage, we look forward to her return. The book is a page-turner because of her." -- San Francisco Chronicle " Olive Kitteridge still lingers in memory like a treasured photograph." --Seattle Post-Intelligencer "Rarely does a story collection pack such a gutsy emotional punch." --Entertainment Weekly "Strout animates the ordinary with astonishing force. . . . As the townspeople grapple with their problems, mild and dire, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life--sometimes painfully, but always with ruthless honesty. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition--its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires. I would DEFINITELY purchase from this seller again. Seller might want to add more pics and better description because there was a tear on the back dust jacket that wasn’t mentioned. Could’ve happened during shipping so I’m not holding it against the seller. I fixed with tape on the inside of jacket. No harm/no foul. The seller had a more than generous price for this book + free shipping. NO complaints. Hence, I would purchase from this seller again without hesitation.

  • Insight into being Human

I wanted to read this book as the author won the pulitzer prize for it and recently came out with a sequel about Olive Kittridge. It is well worth the read. The author displays keen insight into small emotional details about the human condition and how we interact with each other. I highly recommend it.

  • Brings back memories.

The writing is excellent. Elizabeth Strout captured the nature of we Mainers in a compelling manner. Olive is the type of complex character that keeps me reading.

  • Older but Not Necessarily Better

If you like realistic fiction, this book features interlocking short stories that touch on the life of one older Maine inhabitant--the well-known but not-universally -liked Olive Kitteridge. Strout will make you think about the vicissitudes of life in a smallish town in a startling way. Her heroes are the ones who have done their inner work, up and down the social scale---and that may hold surprises.
