SynopsisOsprey's study of the role played by F-8 Crusader Units in the Vietnam War (1955-1975). Known to its pilots as the 'last of the gunfighters' due to its quartet of Colt-Browning Mk 12 20 mm cannon, the F-8 Crusader was numerically the most populous fighter in the US Navy at the start of America's involvement in the Vietnam conflict in 1964 - some 482 F-8C/D/Es equipped 17 frontline units. It enjoyed great success against North Vietnamese Mig-17s and Mig-21s during the Rolling Thunder campaign of 1965-68, officially downing 18 jets, which represented 53 per cent of all Mig claims lodged by Navy squadrons during this period.

F-8 Crusader Units of the Viet Nam
Very interesting if you have a reason of interest in F-8 aircraft, Navy or USMC aviation, Viet Nam war, and/or carrier operations. Since I was a Member of VF-194 operating off of CVA-34 during the Viet-Nam war, this book was very interesting to me. Great research, complemented by sharp Photos and very nice Art work. A wonderful history of the last gun fighters ( 4 x 20mm). The F-8 series aircraft with array of weapons 4 cannons, 4 sidewinder missiles, and a host of wing hung armament. The fight was taken to the enemy at high and low altitude , ground support was a moral raiser for the troops in the thick of the fight. I give a 5 star read for Airedale’s, and other historians.
