A great bargain for a first uke!
This is my first ukulele, and I love it! I wanted a uke so I could be familiar with fretting and strumming before I tried my hand at guitar. Plus, I like the sound and find it a versatile instrument. It's also one of the easiest stringed instruments in the world to play, due to its standard open strings being more in harmony than in say a guitar, and due to having fewer strings.
After doing some research I thought the least I'd have to shell out for a decent uke was like $60 bucks. A decent uke this is indeed, at half the price I thought! Honestly the quality control seems a little lax looking at the other reviews, and scrutinizing my own instrument, noticing little scuffs and things. However, NOT in a way that compromises the playability, tunability, enjoyability of this instrument.
It came with a sheet with basic chords for "row your boat" and "Twinkle twinkle little star", that are absolute entry-level stuff, and extremely helpful. The instrument comes completely untuned. The strings are wound around the pegs just enough to pull them taught. This is good, because we don't want things under tension during shipping. plus, tuning is an important part of instrument ownership. Also, just playing around with a handful of chords all day, the tuning slips a little, but it's supposed to. the wood is settling under the tension of the strings.
The nylon strings make it easier and less painful to learn to fret, however there also exist protective rubber or silicone fingertips one can purchase separately. Youtube makes everything from tuning to strumming and fretting, easy as pie. Don't fret over it. lol
This is an amazing deal for anyone looking to play a ukulele, for any reason, and doesn't want to pay too much.
